Find Hope

In this first episode of a three-part series, Caroline introduces the Cycle of Recovery. In reflecting on her recovery journey, Caroline recognized the need to find hope, experience transformation, and recognize victory. Today, she shares her insights on recovery and hope.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11, New Living Translation)

What is Recovery?

A definition of recovery from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) states that

“Recovery is a process of change through which people improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential.” (https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/recovery)

Where can you find hope?

Caroline mentions three ways you can find hope:

  1. By reading stories of hope in the Bible
  2. By joining a support group or finding people in your life who have experienced similar struggles
  3. By observing the world around you to see where Go is at work.

The Resurrection

In this final episode of Caroline’s 3-part Bible study on Easter events, Caroline reads the resurrection story from the gospel of Luke.

“Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen.” Luke 24;5-6 (NASB)

The Road to Emmaus

Luke also records the events that took place on the road to Emmaus, when two of Jesus’ followers had their eyes opened to see the risen Lord!  Jesus is alive! Have you seen him? Do you know him? Will you choose to believe?

Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24:31-32 (NASB)

16. A Not-so-Good Friday for Jesus

Part 2 – Holy Week Events

In this 2nd of a 3-part Bible study on the Easter events, Caroline reads select events from Holy Week from the Gospel of Mark including the betrayal of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Caroline, a musician and composer, also shares her heart and her song that bridges the gap between Palm Sunday and the crucifixion.

I Will Lay My Palm Branch Down

(c) Caroline S Cooper

V. 1

From a joyful celebration to a lonely night of pain,

The time had come. You chose to face the cross.

So we would see just who you are, and why you had to go so far.

You sacrificed it all to save the lost.

Chorus

I will lay my palm branch down. You set aside Your crown.

To show Your love, You paid the highest cost.

So I bow my head in shame, but You gently call my name.

I’ll lay my palm branch down at the foot of the cross.

V 2

When the crowds had gone away and there was nothing left to say,

on a hill there stood a silent empty cross.

Soon the world would know your plan. Soon you’d live and breathe again.

You sacrificed it all to save the lost.

Chorus

I will lay my palm branch down. You set aside Your crown.

To show Your love, You paid the highest cost.

I used to bow my head in shame, but You gently called my name.

I’ll lay my palm branch down at the foot of the cross.
